Importantly, today's great economic disparity is not due to any decline in wealth, but to political choices about how wealth is distributed; most specifically, dismantling the welfare state and gutting the middle classes in favour of gross accumulation by the (so-called) 1%.
Very interesting. Even Republican Eisenhower, who bisected those four, seems liberal by today’s standards, with his national highways and critique of the “military industrial complex.” Our postwar wealth allowed a lot of room for Liberalism, making governance easier than in times of heightened economic disparity.
I hope the course has been successful. I very much appreciate your breaking down of the word liberalism.
Thanks! And yes, I ran the course twice and both were wonderful experiences.
Great to hear! Congratulations!
